Homes with BT might want to check their equipment is fully up to date, or they may find they suddenly can’t watch their favourite boxsets on Netflix. It’s just been confirmed that some older BT-branded set-top boxes are about to lose support for the popular streaming service, which means the app will no longer work. It’s basically down to Netflix upgrading its platform and ageing equipment not being able to keep up.

“This is happening because Netflix is updating its app to create the best experience, and it will no longer be compatible with these boxes,” BT said.

So what devices are losing Netflix access?

There are two boxes that will end support including the TV Recordable Box (G4) and TV Box (Z4).

As spotted by the team at Cordbusters, the change will come into effect from March 4, 2026 and will mean customers will need to upgrade to continue watching shows such as Drive to Survive, Stranger Things, Seven Dials and Breaking Bad.

BT is keen to point out that Netflix will still work on other devices and customers won’t have their subscription cancelled. This is purely a compatibility issue.

“The rest of our EE TV Boxes, including the 4K Recordable Box (G5) will continue to be supported,” BT confirmed

“Your Netflix subscription won’t be affected, and you can continue to watch on supported devices.”

If you think you have one of these devices under your TV, then you might want to get in touch with BT to ask about switching to a newer box.

You can, of course, still watch Netflix via other devices such as Fire TV Sticks, smart televisions, gaming consoles and Apple TV gadgets.
