Very shoppers rushing to pre-order must-have retro gaming gift that’s selling fast | Gaming | Entertainment

SNK and Plaion have teamed up to bring back one of the most iconic and infamous home consoles from the 1990s. The NEOGEO AES essentially delivered the arcade experience at home – and with a price tag to match. It was billed as the world’s first 24-bit console and was home to legendary titles such as Metal Slug, Samurai Shodown and King of Fighters. If like me you dreamed of owning a NEOGEO AES console but never had the money to buy one, then you’re in luck, because Plaion has announced plans to release the NEOGEO AES+ later this year. Better yet, the retro gaming console is available to pre-order now from retailers such as Very.

Available for £179.99 from Very, the NEOGEO AES+ is an authentic recreation of the classic console, complete with a cartridge slot to play games from the original system and a wired arcade stick.

Launching this November, the AES+ also comes with a selection of quality of life improvements for the modern gamer.

This includes an AV output for use on CRT television sets, as well as HDMI support for 1080p gaming.

That’s on top of a low-power mode and DIP Switches for the ability to change settings and display modes.

Plaion explains more: “On-screen BIOS and DIP Switches located on the bottom of the console allow for instant switching of territory language selection, overclocking the hardware or choosing different display modes.

“The console now offers low power usage as well as permanently saving gamers’ High Score saves for each game.”

In addition to being able to play original cartridges from the 1990s, the AES+ will launch alongside ten re-released SNK games.

This includes Shock Troopers, Magician Lord, Metal Slug and Garou Mark of the Wolves. These individual cartridges can currently be pre-ordered from the Plaion website, where they cost £69.99 each.

The NEOGEO AES+ and accompanying accessories are listed as ‘selling fast’, so you might need to hurry to secure a unit ahead of the November launch.

• The King of Fighters 2002

• Garou: Mark of the Wolves

• Samurai Shodown V Special
