As temperatures begin to drop and evenings grow shorter, autumn approaches rapidly – making this the ideal moment to organise a seasonal weekend getaway. An autumnal break across Britain promises invigorating countryside rambles, snug evenings beside crackling log fires, and discovering charming villages and market towns beneath gentle rainfall.

Condé Nast Traveller has now revealed some of Britain’s finest autumn destinations. Among their recommendations was the picturesque village of Holkham in North Norfolk. Holkham is a quaint coastal destination along Norfolk’s stunning coast, celebrated for its wildlife sanctuary, golden sands, woodland of pines and magnificent stately home, reports the Express.

Those visiting can spend time at Holkham Beach – the crown jewel of North Norfolk’s coastline and among Britain’s most pristine sandy stretches.

This beach welcomes dogs, horses and families alike, extending for miles during low tide whilst being embraced by vast pine woodlands.

During crisp autumn weather, beach visitors may discover themselves entirely alone across the seemingly endless golden expanse.

Tripadvisor reviewers have praised the location as “beautiful” and “clean”.

Marie wrote: “Fabulous beach with miles of beautiful golden sand. Unfortunately, we weren’t very lucky with the weather when we visited, but it meant the beach was very quiet, and we walked for around three miles and only met other people when returning to the car park.

“We could hear lots of jets circling overhead, but the cloud base was too low to see any of the action. We’ll definitely return on a sunny day.”

Steve Grant commented: “We parked up on a car park in town and walked along the estuary to the beach. The walk was pleasant and enjoyable. The beach however was excellent. I loved all the multi-coloured beach huts. Worth the effort to get there.”

After a refreshing walk along the beach, visitors can delve into the intriguing history of Holkham at the 18th-century Holkham Hall.

Recognised as one of England’s finest examples of Palladian revival architecture, Holkham Hall is a grand mansion nestled in the heart of 25,000 acres of parkland and farmland.

The expansive estate and pristine gardens are truly breathtaking. Besides discovering the estate’s rich history, visitors can admire original paintings by Peter Paul Rubens (among others) and indulge in a lunch at the estate’s Courtyard Café.

Further down the coast, holidaymakers can explore the charming town of Wells-next-the-Sea. This picturesque town, situated between Holkham Beach and Blakeney Point, is renowned for its Georgian Square, stunning views from the quay and the Lifeboat Horse, a sculpture crafted from steel bars and whisky barrels located in the harbour.

The beach here is slightly less rugged than Holkham Beach and features a row of vibrant beach huts that sit atop stilts.
