If you own a Ring doorbell or Ring camera, you are probably accustomed to receiving endless alerts on your smartphone. These clever connected devices will send a message each time they spot movement outside on the drive or in the garden. That’s great for monitoring deliveries and seeing who has just arrived at the front door, however, if your kids are playing on the grass or you are having some building work done, it can get extremely annoying. Fortunately, a new upgrade is on the way to fix that problem.

Amazon is launching an update called AI Single Event Alert. As the name suggests, this change consolidates recurring motion alerts from the same event into a single alert, reducing unnecessary notifications and providing a clearer, more useful view of activity.

As Amazon explains, “Say Goodbye to Notification Fatigue: No more getting pinged a dozen times when your kids are playing in the backyard. With Single Event Alert, you’ll receive one streamlined notification for the same type of motion. At a glance, you can see what’s happening on the other side of your camera and quickly decide whether to check in or stay focused on what you’re doing.”

It basically means far fewer unnecessary alerts and a clearer, more meaningful view of what’s happening around your home.

So, when your gardener moves across the yard trimming hedges, or your kids play from one side of the driveway to the other, you’ll get just one notification instead of several.

So who gets this new feature?

Single Event Alert is compatible with all existing Ring doorbells and cameras. The feature is available now to Ring Home subscribers (from £7.99 per month) in the UK.
