Netflix has introduced a delightful rom-com from the early noughties that has rapidly climbed the streaming platform’s top 10 film rankings.
Featuring a Hollywood darling of the romantic comedy world and an actor who’ll be instantly recognisable to Yellowstone viewers, it has surged to sixth place on the service.
For those seeking to be charmed by an enchanting on-screen love story, Netflix has delivered with the 2002 gem Sweet Home Alabama, headlined by Reese Witherspoon.
The Legally Blonde star portrays Melanie Carmichael, a Manhattan fashion designer who fiercely guards the secret of her rural Alabama roots.
Yet when she accepts a proposal from sophisticated bachelor Andrew Hemmings (portrayed by Patrick Dempsey), Melanie must journey back home to formally end things with her small-town spouse Jake Perry (Josh Lucas), her high school sweetheart who stubbornly won’t grant her a divorce, reports the Mirror.

Brimming with Southern appeal and undeniable chemistry between Witherspoon and Lucas, it’s hardly surprising that Sweet Home Alabama has captivated viewers nearly 25 years following its original cinema run, despite garnering a modest 38 per cent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
One IMDb reviewer confessed in a 10/10 assessment: “I can’t seem to stop watching this film….”
Whilst another enthused: “Fantastic, had me hooked from the start. I’m a sucker for good ‘chick flicks’ and this one tops my list.”
They finished with an audacious statement: “Even if this isn’t your kind of film I challenge you to watch it and not feel good, practically impossible.”
Another viewer enthused: “Very good old fashion fun. I was very surprised by this film. I thought that this would be just a silly chick hick flick but I was wrong.

“It’s an intelligent and touching film about faith and home that just pulled at the right heart strings. Reese Witherspoon is wonderful as well as the rest of the cast, and it has just the right sense of hope and fun to bring you out of a bad mood. I can’t recommend it enough.”
Praise poured in on Letterboxd, where Sweet Home Alabama has emerged as a beloved guilty pleasure.
One admirer captured the film’s charm: “A near perfect work of RomCom art. Hits all the tropes, manages all my expectations, is funny as hell and sweet without getting gross.”

“Reese Witherspoon and Josh Lucas are kinda perfect together,” another viewer remarked.
“This movie got me hook, line and sinker. Such a great little romcom that’s so of its time. Gotta love Candice Bergen playing Candice Bergen too.”
Whilst a final devotee confessed: “I’ve spent 15 years trying to decide if I would have picked Jake or Andrew at the end… This masterpiece haunts me.”
