Watch out Samsung and LG, Sky issues 48-hour countdown to claim cheap TV upgrade
Samsung and LG might still rule the roost when it comes to 4K TVs, but Sky is offering a very tempting reason to consider trying something new. The UK provider has cut the cost of its clever Glass TVs by a whopping 25 percent, making these fully connected screens a lot more affordable. In fact, thanks to the latest deal, prices now start from just £225 when buying the things outright. There is also the option to pay per month, which starts from £4.25 with a £20 upfront fee, although this price isn’t part of the Sky sale.
That low £225 cost is for the smaller 43-inch Sky Glass Air TV, but there are also deals on larger 55-inch and 65-inch screens along with up to £300 off the improved Sky Glass Gen 2 models. These feature better 4K displays and an in-built soundbar for much-improved audio.

These are clearly tempting discounts, but there are some things to note. Firstly, the offers end on Wednesday, Feb 11 so there’s only a few days to cash in. Next, all Sky Glass TVs are pretty pointless unless you add a content subscription. These start from £15 per month for the entry-level Sky Essential TV bundle, which features around 100 channels plus Netflix.
The more things you add, such as Sky Sports and Sky Cinema, the more the price increases. For example, switch Sky’s Ultimate TV bundle with sports, movies and kids’ channels and you’ll pay almost £60 per month.
Extras such as advert skipping can also bump up the price.
The other thing to be aware of is how good your broadband is. Sky Glass ditches the need for an aerial with all content beamed to the screen using the web instead. Sky recommends having 30Mbps speeds to watch content without any buffering.
There are bonuses of Sky Glass including simple installation, easy access to all the most popular streaming services and regular upgrades with Sky constantly adding new features.
