An Oscar-winning horror film hailed as ‘unsettling, funny, and brutal in the best way’ airs on BBC3 tonight.

Get Out, which premiered in 2017, centres on Chris and his partner Rose, who have reached the significant meet-the-parents stage of their relationship.

Rose brings her boyfriend along for a weekend visit with her parents, Missy and Dean.

Initially, Chris interprets the family’s excessively welcoming manner as anxious efforts to navigate their daughter’s interracial romance, but as the weekend unfolds, a succession of progressively disturbing revelations leads him to a reality he could never have anticipated.

The production also boasts a stellar ensemble cast including Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya, Girls star Allison Williams, Lil Rel Howery, LaKeith Stanfield, Bradley Whitford, Caleb Landry Jones, Stephen Root, Catherine Keener and Betty Gabriel.

This American horror proved an immediate sensation upon its initial release and viewer reviews have consistently lauded it, with one describing it as ‘the most gripping movie I’ve seen in years’, reports the Mirror.

On the film and TV fan rating platform, the picture holds a near-flawless score of 98 per cent from critics and cinema devotees.

One review said: “Get Out, a suspenseful horror blast, with lots of humour and beautiful visuals. Jordan Peele is one of the best comedian turned directors of all time, I love it so much that I saw it 5 times in the theatres. But, overall, I give Get Out a 10/10 or a 5/5 stars.”

Another viewer added: “One of the most gripping movies I’ve seen in years. For once, the hype was actually deserved. From the opening scene, it hooks you and never lets go, balancing razor-sharp tension with genuinely smart social commentary.

“The performances are fantastic across the board, especially Kaluuya, who carries every quiet, unsettling moment perfectly. It’s unsettling, funny, and brutal in the best way, and it sticks the landing without losing its nerve. Easily one of those movies that makes you want to rewatch it just to catch everything you missed the first time.

“I don’t like creepy or scary movies usually but this right here is the exception. I do not think I have ever seen a movie with better visual clues. The second time I watched it I realized just how many little details there were. Overall this movie is a 10,” a third wrote.

Another shared: “Suspenseful, thrilling, original, unexpected, one of my favorites of all time.”

A fifth said: “Get Out (2017) is a film that starts very slowly to convey to the audience an atmosphere of suspense and terror that will unfold as the story progresses. The ending is wonderful; each passage of time has a dazzling conclusion.”

A sixth added: “This movie was absolutely amazing! I loved the way the story tied together and built such a great story in this film. Though the first half was a bit slow, I was not disapointed at all by the way this movie ended.

“I was on the edge of my seat at the end of the movie praying that he could fight his way out of that house! This is something I highly recommend for anyone who likes mystery with a bit of horror.”

Get Out airs on Thursday 5 February on BBC3 at 10.55pm.
