Universal Studios ‘dead and deserted’ as eery footage speaks volumes | America | Travel
Universal Studios has been described as “deserted” following reports of a drop in visitor numbers at Disney World. The usually bustling tourist hotspot is eerily quiet, with visitors reporting minimal queues for the popular rides.
Becky Lou, known on TikTok as beckylouu, recently highlighted the unusual tranquillity during her September visit. She was astounded by the calm atmosphere, managing to enjoy nearly every ride during her eight-hour stay due to the lack of crowds.
This may seem unbelievable to frequent Florida visitors, but it seems to be the current state of affairs. This comes after Universal announced the opening of a new theme park earlier this year.
In a video recounting her experience, Becky advised: “If you’re thinking about planning a theme park trip to Florida, come in September. There’s no one here. It’s perfect.”
While this might be excellent advice for those seeking a peaceful getaway, the video sparked a lot of chatter about the unusually quiet theme park. The clip has been viewed over 3,000 times since it was posted, with dozens joining the conversation.
One viewer said: “Can confirm. I went to Epic the other day and got everything done, some things multiple times because no one was there after 8pm.”
Another added: “I mean, I was in Florida in August and Universal was dead then too. The Hogwarts ride was a 10 minute queue in the middle of August.”
A third holidaymaker responded: “Was the same for us, only busy times were weekends.” Another visitor agreed, stating: “I was there last week and I can concur. Best crowd levels I’ve ever seen. Lowest wait times.”
One more tourist chimed in with: “I was there 10 days ago and it wasn’t full, but it wasn’t that empty. Two hours in the queue for Hagrid, and the others were 20 to 30 minutes on average.”
Some suggested that the quieter atmosphere could be due to Florida still being in hurricane season. Others speculated that the political climate might be discouraging visitors.
Despite this, CBS reported last month that tourism is actually increasing in Florida, even though Canadian visitor numbers have dropped. Visit Florida previously estimated that 34.435 million people travelled to Florida from April 1 to June 30, a slight increase from 34.279 million during the same period last year.
However, it’s been reported that Universal Studios has seen a decline in visitor numbers in recent years. Attendance at the theme park reportedly declined in early 2025, and this is thought to be due to various factors.
The slowdown in international travel to Orlando due to issues such as tariffs and expense could be one reason. It’s also possible that some tourist attractions are still feeling the effects of the pandemic.
It should be noted, however, that this decline occurred before the highly anticipated 2025 opening of Epic Universe, a new park predicted to significantly boost future demand. Universal enjoyed record attendance and robust performance in 2022 and 2023. However, this month, visitors have noted a noticeable quietness at the attraction.
