‘Underrated’ Netflix Western is so gripping viewers keep rewatching it | Films | Entertainment
Lots of people enjoy a good film, and there’s a Western movie available to stream that people can’t get enough of. The genre is still super popular with viewers, with several often looking for a different film to watch; however one “underrated” option seems to have passed some people by.
Viewers were alerted to the film on Reddit when a user posted: “Super underrated revenge Western on Netflix right now, ‘The Harder They Fall’.” Since the post was shared, it’s got a lot of people talking, and it’s easy to see the Netflix film has captivated many Western fans in recent months.
Even though it was released back in 2021, it seems many are yet to dive into the narrative. It’s not the only Western film fans have been raving about lately either.
If you haven’t seen the film before, it’s an American Western directed by Jeymes Samuel, who co-wrote the screenplay with Boaz Yakin. It stars the likes of Jonathan Majors, Idris Elba, Zazie Beetz and Regina King.
As well as this, it’s one of few Westerns made up of all black principal cast members. Characters are inspired by real cowboys, lawmen and outlaws of the nineteenth-century American West.
As for the plot, it’s a revenge story about outlaw Nat Love who learns his nemesis, Rufus Buck, is set to be released from prison. He gets together a gang to help hunt him down due to the fact that he murdered his parents years earlier.
Viewers then follow the two rival gangs’ violent confrontations as Love attempts to find Buck. This eventually leads to a final, bloody showdown and also results in uncovering a shocking family secret too.
The Reddit user who alerted people to the film said: “Haven’t seen this one talked about nearly enough. Classic revenge story with a really great soundtrack and an all-star cast. Top notch. Also, the ‘White Town’ scene is hilarious.”
It seems many people agree as they were quick to share their thoughts on the film too. Many admitted they thought it was a great watch, and that it offered something different.
Several people said they “loved it”, and encouraged others to give it a go. One wrote: “Love this movie. Taking real life outlaws and lawmen and turning it on its head is amazing.”
Another person replied: “I’m always shocked to see the negative comments about this movie. This is still one of the best films I’ve seen in… my entire adult life.
“The other Western I’d put up there close to it is the 3:10 to Yuma remake with Christian Bale, but that’s a much more traditional Western, whereas THTF is a lot more comic-book-style action that just happens to take place in the old west, with an awesome soundtrack.”
A third replied: “Rewatched recently and thoroughly enjoyed it.” Meanwhile, a fourth commented: “I love all the cheeky one liners, and I agree that the tone was very intentional. I rewatch it every couple of months and still get super excited every time!”
Someone else also chimed in with: “I’ve had this on my list and forgot about it. Will watch this week. Thanks for the reminder.”
One more added: “Saw this a few months ago and loved it.”
