A crime film that has been dubbed underrated and a masterpiece, with fans even ranking it among the best movies they have watched, is available to stream on Netflix. The Place Beyond the Pines by Derek Cianfrance and starring big names including Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper, and Eve Mendes is a mystery thriller full of tension that will surely grip you.

In fact, there’s so much suspense that even the Rotten Tomatoes synopsis, which gives it 79%, leaves you guessing. It reads: “In upstate New York, two men (Ryan Gosling, Bradley Cooper), and later, their sons (Dane DeHaan, Emory Cohen) must deal with the unforeseen consequences of their actions.”

It wrote: “The Place Beyond The Pine fits beautifully into Cianfrance’s meditations about family and consequences and Cooper and Gosling have rarely been better. A gorgeous, ambitious film, this one.”

Similarly, on Rotten Tomatoes, fans have described the film as underrated and suggested that not enough people know about it, even though it has a great cast.

One fan wrote: “This film has stuck with me since I first saw it 10 years ago. I rewatch it every few years. Despite an outstanding cast, it’s not a title many people know. It’s an exploration of father-son trauma, beautifully directed, acted and shot. There is something about the sad, yet hopeful tone and tempo that draws you in. I love this film.”

Another said: “Genuinely one of the best movies I’ve ever watched. The dynamic between the characters and the storyline is amazing. Most underrated movie of all time, in my top 5 now.”

The unforgettable film, according to fans, will catch you by surprise. Whilst not “a feel good film”, it is one that is entertaining, thought-provoking and one that people can connect with.
