UK village with ‘pretty’ houses is ‘best place to live’ | Travel News | Travel
A “charming” village close to Wolverhampton has been crowned the “finest place to live” in the Black Country. Tettenhall has secured second place across the West Midlands, according to lifestyle publication Muddy Stilettos, which releases a yearly guide highlighting the premier locations to reside in the UK, considering property values, educational facilities, local gatherings, dining and retail options, plus transport links.
Remarkably, this picturesque suburb features a delightful outdoor pool where residents can enjoy complimentary swimming during warmer months. A representative from Muddy Stilettos commented to Birmingham Mail: “This quaint village outside Wolverhampton is home to some pretty coloured Victorian villas and terraced houses along with a historic clock tower. There’s a thriving, bustling high street, community outdoor pool and plenty of great school options nearby.”
The village heart showcases charming independent retailers including The Decorium boutique, Hugs and Kisses gifts, Baked in Tettenhall bakery and Robinsons deli.
Popular spot Gluttons for Nourishment serves as the ideal destination for morning beverages and pastries, whilst Italian eateries Fiume or Atelier Del Cibo cater for evening meals, and Seats bistro has earned recognition for its Sunday roasts.
Two exceptional schools operate in the area, alongside Tettenhall College, a mixed day and boarding establishment situated within 33 acres of verdant historic woodland and grounds, which organises an annual Bonfire Night celebration.
The village boasts its own wellness centre, Little Earth, offering yoga, holistic therapies and retreats, with the esteemed Wolverhampton Golf Club just a stone’s throw away.
As a traditional village, it hosts an annual summer fete and frequent food and drink festivals. Meanwhile, Tettenhall Wood and Smestow Valley Nature Reserve provide delightful walking and cycling trails.
It’s also conveniently located near Wolverhampton Grand Theatre and The Halls for live music.
According to Muddy Stilettos, the average house price in this area is £349,934, with most detached homes selling for approximately £513,235 and semi-detached houses for around £278,462.
Tettenhall is conveniently connected to Wolverhampton city centre by bus, where a train can whisk you off to Birmingham in just 20 minutes or London in roughly two hours.
