While many of us spend weekends doing fun things in our hometowns and cities, it is always exciting to hop on a train or in your car and explore somewhere new. This underrated spot is said to be home to one of the finest high streets in the UK and the best part is, you can explore it for free. Home to independent shops, plenty of eateries, and cobbled streets, there is plenty to do.

This stunning and charming market town is Frome in Somerset. From antiques, vintage clothes, handmade jewellery, and stoneware shops to cafes and restaurants serving local beer and artisan snacks, the town has it all. Plus, Frome has become a popular destination for those seeking a blend of culture and countryside.

The town, full of history, is also home to Nunney Castle and often described as one of Somerset’s “most romantic castles” according to Tripadvisor. This medieval castle, surrounded by a moat, is managed by English Heritage and is free for visitors to enter and explore.

The pretty town of Frome sits just 13 miles from Bath, and many in the nearby city are flocking to the market town for a more affordable and quieter lifestyle. Plus it is just two hours from London.

It has been inundated with great reviews on Tripadvisor plus visitors have been sharing videos online of the spot which show off its beauty.

Recently, one visitor, who loves sharing their best UK tourist tips, shared a video of their trip on TikTok. Andrea said: “Have you been to Frome in Somerset yet? It’s the perfect day trip from London as it’s only 2 hours away from Paddington Station.”

He added: “This is one of England’s prettiest towns.”

Another individual, Rosie, shared a video showing off the incredible buildings and charming cobbled streets in Frome. She said: “This is your sign to visit the most beautiful town of Frome in Somerset for a wander.”

One fan of Frome Market, which is on every Wednesday and Saturday, says it is her “favourite day of the month” when she gets to visit the event. Sharing a clip on TikTok, she showed herself and her friends enjoying some good food, admiring jewellery and furniture items, clothes, body products, plants and flowers. Afterwards she enjoyed a spot of pottery making.

An individual commented: “I love how much you love the market, and when I lived in Frome I’d have to avoid it because it’s too overwhelming.”

Another wrote: “You influenced me to go to Frome Market in May and it was lovely.”

You can easily get to Frome via train. The direct train from London to Frome usually takes 2 hours 4 minutes on average to travel 96 miles – and the quickest services can take as little as 1 hour 52 minutes. You can expect to find 8 trains per day running on this popular route.

Other routes from cities like Leeds, Birmingham, Manchester and others require you to get a train to Bristol Temple Meads before getting another train to Frome.

If you plan on driving to the Somerset town, there are plenty of car parking options including council-run public car parks like Market Place and Cork Street.
