UK homes are flocking to grab new TVs that let you stream content for free

Freely is less than two years old, but it seems to be proving incredibly popular. Earlry this year it was announced that this service was the fastest growing TV plaftform in the UK. Now there’s more big news. Hisense, which makes TVs with this streaming platform built in, has just confirmed an impressive milestone. The Chinese manufacturer says it has now sold over one million Freely-powered tellies across the UK. It’s a big figure, and that could give rivals such as Sky and Virgin Media cause for concern, especially as it’s totally free use.

For those not up to speed with the latest advancements in televisions, Freely comes built into a wide range of screens and offers instant access to over 60 live channels without the need for an aerial.

All it needs is a broadband connection, and that’s it, with everything beamed into homes via an internet connection instead.

Other features of Freely include a full TV guide, recommendations and being able to pause live telly.

Along with live content, users can also watch hours of on-demand shows and movies, with everything available for free and without signing up for expensive subscriptions.

“Our partnership with Freely has played a key role in the continued evolution of our core product range, ensuring it meets the needs of today’s consumers,” said Howard Grindrod, Vice President at Hisense UK.

“Freely offers a convenient, market-leading solution and reaching one million Hisense x Freely TV sales is a milestone that we’re extremely proud of.”

It’s worth noting that Hisense isn’t the only manufacturer making Freely TVs, and there are now a couple of set-top boxes that bring this streaming platform to any television in the home.

With more devices arriving on the market, it seems Freely could continue to grow in popularity. It’s also getting more channels this year.

“Freely is uniquely built on the principle of partnership,” said Jonathan Thompson, CEO at Everyone TV.

“By bringing together British broadcasters and manufacturers, we’re creating a TV experience rooted in collaboration and genuine choice for viewers. We’re delighted to be part of Hisense’s success and growth in the UK, as they become a major force in the UK TV market. Their commitment to simple, high quality TVs at a range of price points is resonating strongly with viewers, making brilliant free TV easy to enjoy, all in one place.

“We’re also seeing this momentum play out on Freely, with growth accelerating as more viewers discover just how simple it is to jump into great content. And with a huge summer of sport ahead, including every World Cup match streamed live on Freely, our continued partnership with Hisense means audiences can look forward to an even better, more seamless viewing experience. Together, we’re making it easier than ever for people across the UK to enjoy brilliant free TV, however they choose to watch.”
