This Amazon tablet is just £42 but only for a short time
Amazon is currently selling one of its otherwise discontinued Android tablets at the stellar low price of £41.99. The Amazon Fire 7, which was released in 2022 but has since been superseded by the Fire HD 8, is currently offered as “Certified Refurbished”, which means it is stock that has been returned after purchase, but is guaranteed to work flawlessly.
The Fire 7 is the definition of a basic tablet, with compact 7-inch touchscreen and low-powered processor. This means it’s not the gadget to buy if you want a full HD screen or the ability to play high-end games. But with 32GB storage, 10 hours of battery life and access to most popular streaming apps, it’s the perfect option for those on a budget who want to watch Netflix, Prime Video, Disney+, BBC iPlayer and other services at home or on the go.
As it’s an Amazon tablet, you can also read Kindle books via the Kindle app, and the 7-inch screen size means this isn’t too cumbersome a tablet to do so on.
Via the Amazon Appstore you also have access to popular social media apps such as Facebook, Instagram and TikTok, and support for games such as Candy Crush Saga and Roblox.
Perch the Fire 7 on a stand or leaning against something in the kitchen and you can use Amazon’s Alexa voice assistant to play music, read the news or look up that night’s recipe. You can even use it to call friends and family on residential and mobile numbers in the UK or video call with another Echo or Fire device.
There’s a microSD card slot to expand your storage for offline files if 32GB isn’t quite enough for you, plus a lesser-spotted 3.5mm headphone jack so you don’t have to fuss about with Bluetooth – handy if you’re buying this for a child.
One thing to note is that like all Amazon tablets with the Amazon Appstore, you cannot install Google apps. That means this is not the tablet to get if you want to use apps such as Gmail, Google Docs or YouTube.
But for most other mainstream entertainment apps, the Amazon Fire 7 fits the bill for the bargain price of £41.99.
This offer is listed as a “limited time deal”, so it’s not clear how long it will last. This refurbished tablet normally costs £66.99, so if you want to save £25 and pick up an Android tablet on the cheap, now’s your chance.
