With Christmas just around the corner, there’s no better time to make a trip to a festive town than in December.

You’ll be able to get into the festive spirit while walking around this quaint town with its twinkling lights and wintery seaside views.

Oban in Scotland has been called a “magical destination” by Country Living. While you’re there, you can enjoy winter activities such as the Oban Winter Festival.

It first began in 2011 when a small group of locals decided that the start of winter was a great excuse to have a festival, its website says.

It features a Victorian market, reindeer parade, ice rink, comedy nights, music workshops, children, drinks and food stalls.

In December, Scottish towns are popular with people looking to escape the cities and enjoy a break in the coast, says Country Living.

One must-visit spot in the area is McCaig’s Tower. After climbing to the top, you’ll be able to see sweeping views of the surrounding scenery.

A visitor on Tripadvisor said: “McCaig’s tower is well worth the climb from the town.

“The views over the harbour area are worth seeing, especially on a clear day when you can see across the bay.

“There’s not a lot to actually do up here but the peace and the views are worth soaking in.”

The town is situated around a two and a half hour drive from Glasgow, on the west coast of Scotland. You can also travel by train from Glasgow or Edinburgh.
