The best co-op multiplayer game ever is being made into a Netflix series | Gaming | Entertainment

Overcooked will join a growing list of video games being adapated for television. The popular multiplayer title will be transformed into a reality series — and it seems Netflix has signed on as a broadcasting partner.

According to a report from Deadline, A24 has acquired the rights to the cooking simulator, teaming up with the streaming giant to produce an “unscripted series adaptation”. It is said to be in a similar vein to some of Netflix‘s other established reality shows, namely Floor is Lava and Nailed It!

The TV adaptation of Overcooked aims to serve up high-stakes kitchen challenges, and of course the signature chaos that made the video game so popular with gamers.

Gemma Langford, Oli De-Vine, and Phil Duncan from Overcooked studio Ghost Town Games will team up with A24 to executive produce of the show, which is said to be in the early stages of development.

This will mark the independent film and TV studio’s first experience of creating a reality competition series.

Overcooked is a 1-4 player cooking simulation game in which players work together as chefs to prepare, cook and serve meals against the clock, all while navigating various hazards and obstacles.

It tests a team’s ability to communicate and coordinate properly to successfully complete orders before customers get angry and storm out.

The first game hit store shelves back in 2016 and sold millions of units across PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC, boasting a Metacritic score of 78.

It also won two awards at the 2017 BAFTA Games Awards for Best British Game and Family Game.

A sequel would launch a couple of years later, and would expand and improve on the formula, earning a score of 81%.
