This pretty European country is one that can’t be missed and Lonely Planet say there’s no better time to visit than this year. The country has been called “Europe’s best kept secret” and it has a traditional old town feel to it that charms visitors. Tourists enjoy wandering around its historic cobbled streets and taking in the local culture.

Lithuania is located at the exact centre of Europe and it has become known as an affordable and exciting destination for tourists to visit. Lonely Planet says: “In a world that commodifies the terms ‘conservation’ and ‘sustainability’, Lithuania epitomises both. 

“Named the European Green Capital of 2025, there’s never been a better time to explore its protected forests, lakes and sandy dunes along the Baltic Sea. 

“Green spaces cover 61% of its capital, Vilnius, with unmissable attractions like the recently restored Sapieha Palace.”

One must-visit place in the country is Vilnius Old Town which is filled with culture and history.

The Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and it sits at the point where two of Lithuania’s main rivers converge.

A person who visited on Tripadvisor said: “Excellent for city break in summer when so much of Europe is too hot.

“The old town is beautiful, more or less car free. With castles and churches, lovely squares, cafes and restaurants or just saunter through the medieval streets it’s beautiful.”

One of Europe’s smaller gems, the country is speckled with lakes, covered by forests and lapped at by the Baltic Sea. 

It has a huge range of landscapes from beaches to rolling green hills and exciting cityscapes.

There’s also the huge Aukstaitija National Park which sprawls for over 400 square kilometers and is filled with beautiful pine and spruce trees, says The Crazy Tourist.

An amazing 30% of the park is made up of water and you will also find 30 rivers and 126 lakes here so it’s worth visiting.
