The beautiful beach in UK seaside town that ‘looks like it’s in Australia’ | Travel News | Travel
A beautiful British beach is an idyllic escape that some have compared to the scenic coast of Australia. Britain is home to some glorious beaches, from the Jurassic coast in the south of England to the quaint sandy beaches of the Scottish seaside. But there is one that resembles a famous Australian beach, said one travel blogger.
In a post, she pointed out the areas of the UK that are perfect destination dupes for other spots around the world, letting you save a bit of money for a similar experience. One of those was a stunning beach in Cornwall, which she says resembles Bondi Beach in Sydney, Australia. Angela Price, who runs the blog Where Angie Wanders, pointed out Fistral Beach, in Newquay, Cornwall is a great dupe for Bondi.
She she said: “One of the finest surfing destinations in the world is Fistral Beach in Cornwall.”
She added: “Its curved bay is perfect for riding the big waves. All the big UK surf competitions are held here, including the Famous Night Surf, Boardmasters Surf Championships and National Surf Championships.”
Newquay, a popular seaside town that swells with staycationers over the summer months. The beach is perhaps the most famous attraction in the town, but there are plenty of other things to do, including top-rated restaurants serving traditional local cuisine.
Fistral Beach isn’t a super large beach, stretching for 750 meters. However, it is a popular spot for families to spend a day, with restaurants and cafes close by as well as toilet facilities. According to Tripadvisor reviews, Fistral Beach is the sixth best coastal spot in the whole of the UK.
Visitors have had overwhelmingly positive things to say about this beach. One person wrote: “Wonderful beach for families.
When the tide goes out, it leaves lots of little natural sea paddling pools by the rocks on the right-hand side of the beach.”
Another said: “We return to Newquay year after year because of this beautiful beach! We love nothing better as a family than coming along, pitching up for the day, watching the surfers hit the waves, dipping our toes in the sea and fighting off the seagulls from our pasties. The beach is clean and has good facilities (showers, toilets, baby change). There are a few shops and restaurants right next to the beach and a little hut where you can buy pasties and ice creams from. Honestly, this place is a perfect family day out!”
A third wrote: “I have visited this beach many times before, the vibe here is just unmatched (especially in the summer). There’s a pizzeria, bar, cafe and surf hire all on the beach front. This beach is a perfect day out for families, couples or even solos like me! It’s a great place to go if you’re wanting surfing lessons, or to attempt surfing.”
However, some pointed out a downside, which is the expensive parking in the area.
Angela added: “High cliffs and dunes back the beach with restaurants, hotels and surfing schools, securing a spot for Fistral Beach as one of the top British destinations for an activity holiday.”
Among the other UK alternative destinations she listed was Cambridge, which offers something similar to the old city of Bruges in Belgium. Meanwhile, she said that Porthcurno Beach, Cornwall, is akin to the Algarve in Portugal, while she claims the Isles of Scilly are similar to Antigua in the Indian Ocean.
