A vast number of homes continue to use ageing Wi-Fi devices that simply can’t keep up with 4K streaming or the ever-growing number of connected devices we now own. Some UK broadband suppliers, including EE and Sky, are now offering improved connectivity via the latest Wi-Fi 7 technology, which not only enables faster speeds but also supports a greater number of connected devices simultaneously. Wi-Fi 7 is a significant step up from older Wi-Fi 4 and Wi-Fi 5 routers, but it appears it won’t dominate the market for long.

The team at ASUS have just announced the first Wi-Fi 8 router, which could arrive in homes within the next few years. Right now, it’s just a concept, but ASUS says it could transform the way we connect to the web.

Not only will it be able to cope with delivering quicker downloads, but it will also offer a more reliable and stable connection at all times.

ASUS also says that WiFi 8 will strengthen two-way communication for low-power devices such as smart lights and controllers, ensuring steady connections for all connected devices.

Another issue it will fix is interference, especially for those living in densely populated areas. Signals from nearby routers can disrupt each other. WiFi 8 routers maintain stable performance in this scenario through the use of intelligent spectrum coordination. That means they can break through all the noise and not suffer any slowdowns when things get busy.

WiFi 8 routers are also designed to address the problem of network congestion. By enhancing spectrum efficiency and dynamic scheduling, these new models will ensure that every megahertz of bandwidth is used effectively, improving both latency and overall throughput.
