Spider-Man Brand New Day CinemaCon footage is totally devastating | Films | Entertainment

The Daily Express was present this past evening in Las Vegas for the CinemaCon Sony Pictures presentation of their upcoming film slate.

After garnering a record 1 billion views in a week for the first trailer for Spider-Man Brand New Day, anticipation is extremely hot.

Tom Holland couldn’t be present but appeared virtually by recorded hologram to tease his fourth solo outing as Peter Parker, which he said is the “most emotional” and “most grown-up” to date.

The Marvel star said that fans will be witnessing some of the consequences of Peter’s decision for the world to forget him at the end of Spider-Man No Way Home five years ago.

That was before exclusive footage was screened for us at the CinemaCon event, at which the Sony Pictures boss asserted Holland has given his “finest performance” in Spider-Man Brand New Day.

In the new footage, Peter is sitting on the phone in a shop before Ned walks in a purchases some beer keys for a party. Peter, now incredibly lonely, decides to follow Ned across New York City to crash the party. Finding himself in Ned’s bedroom, he discovers his best friend who’s forgotten him has pinned up tons of news articles about the mysterious Spider-Man. Interestingly, Ned knows Spider-Man has saved him on multiple occasions but has forgotten his true identity is Peter because of Doctor Strange’s spell at the end of the last movie.

Amusingly, Ned’s best guess of Spider-Man’s true identity is their classmate Flash or teacher Roger Harrington. That is before MJ enters and thanks Peter for the nice flowers as a housewarming gift, with no knowledge of who he is. Peter instead introduces himself as Maynard. In the other room MJ confesses to Ned she didn’t go to a job interview as doesn’t want to work for a soulless corporation. That is before her new boyfriend walks in.

MJ’s new boyfriend, played by Eman Esfandi, kisses her and we get a devastating look of pain from Peter who witnesses this. The scene then cuts to some Spider-Man action sequences before a new clip of the Web Slinger pausing to stretch before a fight because “I’m not in high school anymore”. If that wasn’t enough, Sony also brought out Chris Miller and Phil Lord at CinemaCon to tease the CG-animated Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, with Miles Morales confronting an alternate version of himself.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day lands in cinemas on July 31, 2026 and Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse follows on June 18, 2027.
