Spa town with gorgeous parks and cafes called ‘most underrated’ | UK | Travel
A woman believes this is the ‘most underrated’ town in the UK – and she is encouraging more people to visit.
While most tourists are drawn to London or more historic towns like Bath or Stratford-Upon-Avon, there are many lesser-known treasures across the country that often go unnoticed.
One of these is Royal Leamington Spa, which is nestled by the River Leam in Warwickshire. It boasts Victorian architecture and wide boulevards. With its award-winning parks and independent coffee shops, it’s an ideal destination for your next day trip or weekend getaway.
Amy from Sutton Coldfield in Birmingham, also known as ‘Bab About Town’ on social media, believes it’s truly the most underrated town in the UK. And the best part – it’s just a short train journey away from big cities like London and Birmingham.
Taking to TikTok, 29-year-old Amy shared video clips from her recent visit to the often-overlooked town.
She wrote in the caption of the video: “The most underrated town in the UK? It honestly blows my mind how Leamington Spa still gets overlooked by the big travel platforms – especially when it rivals some of the UK’s most loved spots!”
The video showcased some highlights from Amy’s visit to Leamington Spa, featuring picturesque buildings, parks and shops.
She ventured into one of the numerous independent eateries, before carrying on with her exploration of the town.
“Think grand Victorian buildings, dreamy cafés, gorgeous parks, buzzing coffee shops, flaky pastries, incredible independents and so many foodie finds,” she wrote.
There are also plenty of parks and natural spaces to discover, including Riverside Glasshouse, which Amy is seen strolling through in the video.
Situated within Jephson Gardens, a formal Victorian park, the Riverside Glasshouse offers exotic plants, a water feature, and a compact, intimate rainforest atmosphere, free for all visitors to discover.
Beyond this, the Jephson Gardens caters to everyone – featuring play areas for young children, alongside flowerbeds, sculptures, a café, and a sensory garden for people to wander through.
“It’s the sort of destination that feels like a mini getaway, ideal for a relaxed day out or a spontaneous weekend adventure,” Amy remarked about her brief visit to Leamington Spa.
Numerous people shared her view – as viewers flocked to the comment section of the video to express their own opinions and personal experiences of visiting the town in question.
One wrote: “Leamington is such a gem of a place!”
Another viewer said: “Been to Leamington Spa last weekend and became one of my favourite places to visit in the UK. so so lovely.”
Yet, whilst many appeared to adore it, not everyone shared Amy’s view that the town was ‘underrated’. One individual commented: “I wouldn’t say underrated, it’s one of the most desirable places to live/visit.”
In addition, another viewer stated: “I don’t think it’s overlooked or underrated at all. It’s known as a regency town that has fab restaurants and green spaces.
“House prices are high and it’s generally an affluent area. Plus only an hour from north London and half an hour from the north Cotswolds.”
