Sophie Turner as Lara Croft revealed – Tomb Raider fans react | Gaming | Entertainment
Amazon has revealed the first image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft from its upcoming Tomb Raider TV show.
Game of Thrones star Turner will appear alongside the likes of Jason Isaacs and Sigourney Weaver in the Prime Video adaptation, which is being developed by Fleabag creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
As you can see from the tweet below, Amazon is going for the traditional Lara Croft look, complete with tank top, shades, shorts and gun holsters.
However, despite staying true to the source material, the first image of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft has received a mixed response from fans.
The Tomb Raider community is fighting like cats and dogs in the comments section, with some fans loving the portrayal and others hating it.
One fan believes Turner would be better suited to a role in Bridgerton, while another called it “great cosplay”.
“Please no. Need someone more rugged. Shed do better on Bridgerton,” one fan tweets.
Another posted: “Looks like a great cosplay, although this is not Lara Croft.”
“Looks like Sophie Turner cosplaying as Lara Croft,” another fan agreed.
“Objectively – this is giving a decent quality cosplay but still not seeing it. Might be just me. I’m not hell bent on Angie (though she was uniquely fit) but I’m sure casting could do better.”
There are also a surprising number of people comparing Turner unfavourably to Angelina Jolie, who played Lara Croft in two separate Tomb Raider movies in the early 2000s.
Other fans were much more supportive of Sophie Turner as Lara Croft, including one user who described her as the “best live action version of Lara”.
Another fan writes: “Guys!!! It’s dangerous to spring news like this on us without warning. Wow, Sophie is magnificent in the role of Lara! All the best for her and everyone involved.”
“SHE LOOKS GREAT!!!!” reads one of the more enthusiastic tweets.
“Wow, Sophie Turner looks like a perfect fit for Lara Croft! She’s got the toughness and intensity—can’t wait to see her take on the role. This series just became my most anticipated show on Prime Video!”
