Reacher’s Alan Ritchson undergoes drastic transformation for new role | TV & Radio | Showbiz & TV
Alan Ritchson, the star of Amazon Prime’s hit series Reacher, is barely recognisable in his latest role for an upcoming film.
The 6’3″ actor, who is also rumoured to be the next Batman in the DC Comics movie franchise, is set to appear in the forthcoming film Motor City.
However, Ritchson’s portrayal of 1970s ex-convict John Miller is a far cry from his role as the iconic former Military Policeman.
Now sporting long, unkempt hair and a scruffy beard, Ritchson had to shed a significant amount of weight for certain scenes.
A sneak peek at the film shared by Ritchson on Instagram shows him looking noticeably slimmer with long, 70s-style hair while being arrested by the police.
Another still from the film fast-forwards to his character’s time in prison, where he appears muscular but a world away from the wandering hero Jack Reacher, complete with a dishevelled beard and shoulder-length hair.
Ritchson has previously revealed how nutrition coach Thomas DeLauer helped him rapidly lose weight for the role in between filming seasons of Reacher.
Last summer, he asked his followers: “How do you completely transform when you only have a few days to transition from Reacher to your next role in period action piece extraordinaire, #MotorCity?
“You bring out the big guns. @thomasdelauer to help me drop weight fast.”
Paying homage to his team, he continued: “The one-of-a-kind Sandy Sokolowski for new hair. And the great Gary Archer (teeth_by_archer) for a less pearly set of pearly whites.
“And of course @katvonpire on some new character specific tats.”
Ritchson shared a series of photos showing his transformation into character, complete with cuts and bruises, dishevelled long hair and a set of prosthetic teeth.
He concluded his post by saying: “My goal is always to make a character as real for you as humanely possible,” reports the Mirror.
“Not having days off between jobs makes it hard to go as far as I want, but I’ll get as close to unrecognisable as possible. I refuse to play myself. You’ve never experienced anything like Motor City.”
His next adrenaline-fuelled action-thriller is sure to be a hit with Reacher fans and is slated to premiere late next year or early 2026 following its debut at the Venice Film Festival.
Also featuring Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster and Pablo Schreiber, and directed by Potsy Ponciroli, the 70s-set revenge thriller sees Ritchson’s ex-con character seeking vengeance against the criminals who wrongfully imprisoned him.
The film takes a unique approach to storytelling, reportedly containing only about five lines of dialogue.
Co-star Foster told Deadline: “This is not a silent film.
“There are about five lines of dialogue. If we think about what makes us human, it’s behaviour and how we behave with each other.
“So it was a fun challenge to tell a story without telling the story in a traditional manner. We were able to relate physically as actors.”
Reacher is available to stream on Prime Video. Motor City does not yet have a wide release date.
