Pokémon GO takes over the Australian Open with special event | Gaming | Entertainment
Tennis and Pokémon fans are coming together once again for a special event celebrating the Australian Open. The tournament gets underway at Melbourne Park on Sunday, January 18, running through to February 1 — and it will be accompanied by a Pokémon GO extravaganza.
That’s right, a real-world event for the popular mobile game on iOS and Android will be running for those attending in person, with players also able to encounter a rare Pikachu. The Daily Express has a full guide on everything you need to know.
Australian Open 2026 Pokémon Go event start date and time
The event is already underway, meaning fans can start Pokémon spotting at Melbourne Park right now. It began on Monday, January 12 at 9am, and will run until the Australian Open draws to a close on February 1 at 11.59pm.
Pokémon Go Australian Open 2026 Bonuses and Collection Challenges
Lure Modules active during the event will last for a total of three hours. Note this doesn’t include Golden Lure Modules.
Lure Modules have a chance of attracting Unown A and Unown O, plus 1/2 Stardust cost for trades, and one additional Special Trade per day.
An event-themed Collection Challenge is also on the way. All players have to do is complete a catch-focused Collection Challenge to receive XP and an encounter with a rare Pikachu wearing a red party hat.
