UPDATE: Sony has now confirmed that the State of Play will take place on Thursday February 12, 2026 at 10pm GMT. The showcase is expected to last over an hour.

ORIGINAL: Gaming insiders reckon that Sony is planning a State of Play event later this week with it reportedly setting out PlayStation’s stall for 2026.

That’s according to notably leaker Jeff Grubb, who has accurately predicted the dates of several previous State of Play and Nintendo Direct events. He dropped his latest prediction on the weekly Giant Bomb podcast, stating: “It’s happening on February 12.”

This tracks well with Sony’s previous record and State of Play events usually tend to happen on Thursday evenings at around 10pm UK time. The publisher and console maker also has a track record of hosting these events during the month of February, often showcasing the biggest games set to release for the PS5 in the coming year.

As for what games we can expect to see at the State of Play event, we’re not 100% sure – and neither is Jeff Grubb.

PlayStation does already have a fairly promising line-up for the first half of 2026. Resident Evil Requiem is set to arrive in just over two weeks, with Housemarque’s Saros coming at the end of April.

With Saros being the closest true exclusive for the PS5, I’d expect a big chunk of this presentation to be focused around that. We’ll likely get a bit more of a deep dive into the game’s story and gameplay mechanics.

Bungie’s Marathon will also likely see a spot in the show with its launch date arriving at the very start of March. The studio has promised that a free weekend will precede the launch, so we’d expect this to get announced this week for later in February.

Looking later into the year, we also have Marvel’s Wolverine from Insomniac Games. While there’s no concrete release date for this yet, it’s expected to be more of a late summer/early autumn title, so it’s unlikely to appear at State of Play just yet.

Some fans over on Reddit are hoping for a teaser trailer for part three of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake. With a renewed interest in the series thanks to the release of Intergrade on Switch 2 and Xbox, plus Rebirth slated for Switch 2 release later in the year, this wouldn’t be out of the question.

It’s been two years since Rebirth first launched for the PS5 with the titles all carrying console exclusivity with Sony’s platform at launch so far. Although Square Enix has improved on cross-platform availability in recent years, it’s affinity for PlayStation could see it tease the first look at the final chapter later this week.

Horizon fans shouldn’t get their hopes up, though. Although a third entry in the open world RPG series is seemingly planned, it appears that most of Guerilla Games is currently working on the live service survival spin-off, Horizon Hunters Gathering, which was announced last week.

What we’re really hoping gets a look in is the rumoured 2.5D metroidvania set in the God of War series. This has long been rumoured to be in development at Mega Cat Studios and will reportedly return to Greek mythology as a means of bridging the gap between Ragnarok and whatever adventure Sony Santa Monica cooks up next.

Sony is yet to officially reveal if a State of Play is happening this week. We’ll report back when we know more.
