‘One of the best movies in a generation’ has been added to Netflix | Films | Entertainment

Netflix has just added a critically acclaimed 1990s film that’s essential viewing this weekend.

Based on a bestselling novel by crime mastermind John Grisham, this epic adaptation brings the courtroom drama to life with an all-star cast.

Hollywood icons Sandra Bullock and Samuel L Jackson lead the film with a stellar supporting ensemble that also includes Matthew McConaughey, Oliver Platt and Donald and Kiefer Sutherland. Plus, Oscar-winning star Octavia Spencer makes her film debut.

1996 hit A Time to Kill has just been added to the streaming service this week and many movie buffs agree it’s a five-star masterpiece that’s well worth your time this weekend.

Although it received mixed reviews at the time, the film was a box office success and has built up a passionate following of cinephiles who have praised its raw and honest approach to race relations in the United States.

A Time to Kill has hundreds of five-star Google reviews, including this one which claims it’s “a gripping courtroom drama that challenges the boundaries of justice, race, and morality in the American South.

“A Time to Kill is a thought-provoking, emotionally charged legal drama with strong performances and a fierce moral heartbeat. It’s not just a courtroom thriller – it’s a film that demands its audience to think, feel, and confront uncomfortable truths.”

Another enthusiastic review declared: “I have watched this probably close to a dozen times over the years. It’s one of the most heartbreaking and at the same time inspiring movies there is.

“The storyline is great – one of the best there ever was. No idea how someone can give this less than a 5* review if viewing the movie with an open mind (not comparing to the book) and not trying to make comparisons to fact or fantasy.”

A further viewer commented: “One of the best movies in a generation that will surpass time itself! A true masterpiece to the truth in a fictional setting.

“You see this happens all the time and finally a writer and a filmmaker said it was time to show the world the truth. The truth of millions of Americans everyday. The truth they don’t get justice that they are cast aside. But in this film enough was enough and they finally got a win. Highly recommended!”

The acclaim extended to Letterboxd, where another glowing five-star assessment noted: “Amazing cast, courtroom drama and terrific screenplay.

“I’m finding it impossible not to love this film. A powerful and harrowing masterpiece that does a fantastic job exploring justice, racial tension and the flaws of the legal system. Honestly I don’t know how nobody talks about it.”

Will you be carving out some time to watch this riveting courtroom drama in the near future?

A Time to Kill is available to stream on Netflix.
