With Winter approaching and the cost of living on the rise, many households share concerns over energy bill prices during the coldest season. With Ofgem’s recent price cap increasing costs for Brits nationwide, Octopus Energy has offered some top tips to customers to help shave down costs.

One suggestions includes replacing light bulbs to energy-efficent ones, with LED bulbs stated to be the most economical choice, reports the Mirror. These bulbs require much less energy when compared to regular bulbs — almost 80% less. Over a duration of time, the savings from reduced energy-consuming items will result in a manageable budget and fewer bulb purchases.

On its “Energy Saving Tips” page on the website, Octopus Energy said: “Saving energy shouldn’t feel like a chore. It’s all about making simple, smart choices that benefit both your wallet and the planet.”

Going further, the supplier added that LED bulbs could save over £72 per household. It explained: “Lighting makes up around 11% of a typical power bill. LEDs use 70-80% less electricity — so when it’s time to replace those bulbs, go LED”.

The energy giant added: “Energy Savings Trust has written loads about the impact it could make on your bills (between £5-£13 per bulb, per year!). Making sure you switch off the lights when you leave the room can save a further £20 per year”.

While these bulbs are available in a range of stores, such as B&Q and Screwfix, shoppers can also find great deals online too. Amazon’s 24-pack Warm White LED 2700K Bulbs is priced at just £20.99. This works out to around 87p per bulb, the Mirror reports.

Sunbright LED claims the average lifespan of an LED bulb being up to 50,000 hours of continuous use — roughly four to six years. Their “A” energy-saving class translates to the most efficient energy rating for home appliances.

Octupus Energy supports this, adding: “LEDs last significantly longer than halogen bulbs—up to 20 times longer in many cases—so you may not need to replace them for many years”.
