Apple AirTags have proven very popular since their launch in 2021 as an easy and affordable way to track your valuable and important items. These small battery powered discs can be put on keychains or inside bags and purses, then tracked by anonymously pinging off the plethora of iPhones out in the world so you can locate your lost things.

But the problem is they only work with an iPhone. If you have an Android phone, you can’t use AirTags. Thankfully, one of Apple’s rival trackers is currently on sale over at Amazon for just £24, down from £30, and it works in the same way as AirTags – no matter what phone you have.

The Chipolo POP tracker tag is a small plastic disc that is powered by the same CR2032 coin battery AirTags use. Unlike Apple’s tracker, this one has a hole on it so you can loop it onto a keyring without an accessory, which is very handy.

You set up the tracker by pairing it with either the Apple Find My app or Google Find My Device app which is available for any Android phone. You can’t have both track the POP at the same time, but it’s great that it works with either one.

I’ve been using one of the older Chipolo trackers for well over a year in Google’s Find My Device app for Android and It works very well, and helps determine the tracker’s last known location by pinging off Android devices nearby.

I have not lost the keys it is attached to yet, but I have been unable to find them within my house a few times. Thankfully my tracker, just like the newer Chipolo POP, is equipped with a very loud ringer that you can activate via the Find My Device app, prompting the POP to emit a piercing shrill that has ensured I’ve found it in no time.

I like that you can use the tracker with Google’s Find My Device app and don’t have to necessarily download and use Chipolo’s own app. However, if you want to use extra features such as being able to ring your phone using the POP, or to get alerts if you leave your item behind, you’ll need to use the Chipolo app.

After more than a year of use, I have just this week had to change the battery on my Chipolo, which is good going and much better than having a tracker with a non-removable battery that you have to chuck in the bin. Chipolo also rates the battery life in the POP at one year, and all trackers come with a battery included.
