Motorola takes aim at Samsung and Google with a surprise new Android phone
Motorola is no stranger to bendy phones. Its iconic Razr brand has been offering users a flippable clamshell design since 2004 with the most recent Ultra version getting a fast Snapdragon Elite processor, bigger cover display, long battery life and quick charging. Now it seems Motorola wants an even bigger slice of the flexible action, with the company announcing the release of a new device called the Razr Fold.
As the name suggests, this Android call maker will take aim squarely at Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold7 and the latest Pixel Fold from Google.
Just like those rivals, the Razr Fold opens like a book to reveal a massive 8.09-inch 2K internal display that looks more like a mini tablet than a smartphone.
This huge panel is complemented by a 6.56″ front screen that offers the familiarity of a traditional smartphone. That means you can use like a normal device but then open things up when you want a more expansive panel.
On the rear case is a triple lens camera that includes a main sensor, an ultrawide/macro lens, and a 3 times periscope telephoto lens that’s powered by a Sony sensor.
There are no further details on processor, battery life, charging or price, with Motorola saying more information will be revealed in the coming months.
We do know that it will be available in colours, including PANTONE Blackened Blue and PANTONE Lily White.
Explaining more, Motorola said: “Motorola today announced the motorola razr fold, its first foldable smartphone, introducing a new form factor designed to adapt seamlessly to modern life.
“Built for productivity and entertainment, the device combines flexible layouts, intuitive interfaces, and on‑device AI features to deliver a versatile large‑screen experience in a compact form.”
