A period drama film, hailed as a masterpiece by audiences who have urged others to watch the piece, is now streaming on Prime Video.
This comes after others have waxed lyrical about a period crime drama, an adaptation from a “superb” author and a show described as Netflix’s finest offering.
One 10/10 review of the movie read: “One of the finest plays in history is turned into a cinematic masterpiece.”
They added that the film, titled The Crucible, had an “absolutely brilliant and cathartically heartbreaking performance” from one the lead stars. They also went on to add how the star “delivers one of the finest examples of acting genius I’ve ever had the privilege of experiencing”.
Another 8/10 review read: “I am not someone to randomly give out a perfect score for a movie… …And I also happen to be a very critical person of most films. With that being said, The Crucible completely blows me away with its virtually flawless cinematic achievements!”

One 9/10 review described the movie as “just fantastic” and based on “possibly the greatest play ever written”.
One performance was described as “outstanding”, while another cast member left an “indelible impression thanks to their “marvellous acting”. The reviewer summed by saying the film was a “work of cinematic genius”.
Yet another person gave a top-tier review and wrote: “Not just a dynamic character study, but a study of madness”.
While a 7/10 review waxed lyrical about the film being an “excellent adaptation” and went on to say: “There is nothing I like better than a good play for the stage, even when it is on screen.”
The Crucible was first released in 1996 and is based on the 1953 Arthur Miller play of the same name.
Set during the Salem Witch Trials in Massachusetts Bay from 1692 to 1693, Miller wrote the play as an allegory to the political repression typified by McCarthyism during the mid-1950s.
The Crucible followed a group of Puritan colonists whipped into a frenzy amid rumours of witchcraft after the local preacher Samuel Parris (played by Bruce Davison) finds his daughter lying unconscious in the woods.
This comes after she and a group of other girls have been trying to cast spells with a slave woman.

As word spreads of what’s occurred, accusations of witchcraft begin to run rife among the locals, causing them to turn on each other without any evidence.
The girls start to accuse others of witchcraft, leading people to be put on trial, including John Proctor (Daniel Day-Lewis), who had an affair with Abigail Williams (Winona Ryder).
The Crucible featured an all-star cast, including Joan Allen, Paul Scofield, Peter Vaughn, Frances Conroy, and Jeffrey Jones, among others.
The film came out in 1996 and was nominated for a slew of nominations, including a Best Actress nod for Allen and a Best Adapted Screenplay nod for playwright Miller.
Moreover, the piece garnered nominations for BAFTAs, Golden Globes, Satellite Awards, and the Berlin Film Festival.
The Crucible (1996) is streaming on Prime Video and Apple TV for a fee now
