Major TV update makes it easier for UK homes to stream popular content for free
A major update has just been announced that will make it far easier to stream endless hours of content for free. Channel 4 has confirmed that it is joining forces with the team at UKTV to bring a vast catalogue of bonus content to its streaming platform. The launch will provide Channel 4 viewers with the ability to view UKTV originals and BBC classics – both catch up and boxsets – alongside Channel 4’s own programming.
Things that will be available to view include The Office starring Ricky Gervais, cult sci-fi comedy Red Dwarf and panel show QI XL.
Until now, UKTV has been available via its own streaming platform and services such as Sky, Virgin, Freesat and Freeview, but this latest boost means more homes will now find extra things to watch from one place.
Speaking about the change, Jonathan Allan, Interim CEO, Channel 4, said: “Bringing UKTV’s much-loved shows together with Channel 4’s award-winning programmes means more fantastic choice for everyone. Viewers can expect us to continue making it easier to enjoy the programmes they love.”
And Marcus Arthur, CEO, UKTV said: “With our U service now also available on Channel 4 streaming, UKTV’s popular and award-winning shows can reach new audiences and Channel 4 viewers get even more choice. It’s the perfect partnership, built on putting viewers first.”
The U service on Channel 4 streaming features hundreds of hit shows, including:
• The Office – Ricky Gervais as the inept David Brent
