Lorraine Kelly’s £58 dress shoppers can buy now and wear year-round
Lorraine Kelly has had viewers rushing to Next to snap up a versatile wardrobe must-have after being spotted sporting it on her eponymous breakfast show. The 66-year-old presenter stepped onto set wearing a midi shirt dress from the high street favourite – and it costs less than £60.
Denim dresses have long been a staple in the grandmother’s wardrobe, with the host having worn similar styles from River Island, Karen Millen and Me + Em in the past. Worn on Tuesday’s show (February 3), her latest look proves why denim dresses have become something of a signature in her style.
This time, Lorraine opted for a dark blue denim midi shirt dress, priced at a reasonable £58. Crafted from 100% cotton, it offers a timeless silhouette for ‘effortless styling and all day comfort’, according to the brand.
The frock features an adjustable belt and press-stud fastening, coming in three lengths, tall, regular and short, so that shoppers can find their ideal fit. What’s more is that there’s also a ‘fuller bust’ option available for the same price, perfect for those who often struggle to find dresses that fit just right across the chest.
As for Lorraine’s styling, she kept things bang on trend with a pair of leopard print court shoes. We haven’t been able to confirm her exact pair, but these Presley Leopard Print Sling Back Low Court Heel (£37.99) from Linzi via Debenhams could be a good alternative.
Denim dresses never go out of style, which is why there is an abundance of them on the high street. Some current top picks include this Blue Denim Short Sleeve Seamed Midi Dress from River Island, for £56. It boasts a V-neck design with short sleeves, seam detailing, a flared skirt silhouette and tie back feature.
Meanwhile, at Boden, this Pleat Skirt Denim Midi Dress is £149 and comes in sizes 4-22. To elevate this everyday silhouette they’ve added fresh details such as thoughtful box pleats, romantic puff sleeves and a refined waistband.
But the Next dress, as seen on Lorraine, has been earning praise from fashion enthusiasts, with some even buying it in every colour. One said: “Purchased a month ago and already have two other colours. Excellent quality and looks great with trainers or tights and boots. 10/10.”
Another said it was a ’lovely dress’ with a ‘great fit’ however, some shoppers have struggled to find the right length for them. One said: “I wanted a denim dress, this dress looked great and would have been ok if I weren’t nearly 6ft tall with very long arms.”
Another said: “Purchased for my daughter, who is absolutely delighted with the dress. Overall fit is good though more towards a maxi length on her.”
The fuller bust dark blue denim midi shirt version of the dress also has five-star reviews, and has been described as ‘well made,’ ‘great fabric’ and ‘very good quality’.
What’s so great about Lorraine’s fashion find is that it’s the kind of piece that can be bought now and worn year round. For spring, wear it as Lorraine did, belted and styled with statement heels or ballet flats. Add a lightweight trench or cropped jacket for those in-between days.
As the weather warms up, roll up the sleeves, swap heels for white trainers or sandals, and wear it loose for an easy daytime look, or on those balmier evenings with a kitten heel. Moving into autumn, ankle boots and a leather jacket or cosy knit over the top will give it an effortless transitional feel.
And in the coldest months of the year, layering is key, so style it over a slim polo neck, with knee-high boots and a long wool coat. It really is the sort of purchase that works hard and earns its keep in any wardrobe, no matter what style or age.
