Forget SEGA vs Nintendo and PlayStation against Xbox, the original console war dates back more than 40 years when Intellivision went up against Atari.

And retro gaming fans will be pleased to hear that the original console war is about to be reignited, because a new Intellivision device is about to launch, just a few weeks after the release of the Atari 2600+ Pac-Man Edition.

The difference this time, however, is that Atari is behind both upcoming releases, having purchased the Intellivision brand back in 2024. Presumably Atari wants you to buy both!

Launching this December, the Intellivision Sprint is a modern reimagining of the iconic gaming console.

As you can see from the trailer below, the Intellivision Sprint features the same design as the classic device, albeit with updated features.

For starters, you’ll be able to connect the device to modern TVs and monitors thanks to the HDMI port. That’s on top of a USB-A port, which can be used to add more games.

The console also comes with two classic disc controllers, which can be used wirelessly.

Needless to say, the Intellivision Sprint launches with 45 built-in games, including the superb Boulder Dash, Tower of Doom and Thunder Castle.

Each game comes with two cardboard overlays, which can be inserted into the controllers when you’re playing.

According to the Atari website, the Intellivision Sprint launches in early December. It can be pre-ordered for £119.99. Over on Amazon, however, the Intellivision Sprint is listed for a December 27 release, and costs £99.99.
