Ignore Ring, Amazon unveils a new way to watch your home from your phone
Ring might be one of the most popular smart home brands on the market (especially its doorbells), but Amazon has another range of cameras that can keep watch when you head away. The firm acquired Blink all the way back in 2017, with these gadgets offering a more affordable security solution. Now, the already expansive range of smart home tech – which includes indoor cameras, flood lights and doorbells – is being expanded with the launch of the latest device called the Blink Outdoor 2K+.
As the name suggests, this device can be mounted on exterior walls and capture pin-sharp 2K-resolution footage of what is going on in the garden or driveway. Thanks to 4X digital zoom, you can even get a close-up if the camera notices anything.
It’s not just during the day that things will be spotted. There’s also enhanced low-light performance, and it can record full colour even when the sun goes down. This means you can see important details – like the colour of a vehicle or clothing – when natural light is limited. Another bonus is battery life: Amazon promises a single charge can last up to 2 years.
Of course, this camera is filming outside 24 hours a day which means it needs to survive some serious punishment during the long cold winters.
Luckily, it gets a design that is fully IP65-rated design that stands up to rain, dust, and severe weather.
Like all new cameras, it can be used for free, but the best features, such as notifications for person and vehicle detection and cloud recordings, do require a Blink Subscription Plan, which start from £2.50 per month.
The Blink Outdoor 2K+ is available in black and white for £89.99 for a one camera system including a Sync Module Core. For local storage, use the Sync Module 2 with a USB drive (sold separately).
With a Blink Subscription Plan, you cane access unlimited cloud storage for motion events and live view recordings for up to 30 days.
