‘I excitedly showed off my holiday on TikTok and the worst thing happened’ | Travel News | Travel
A woman who excitedly showed off her holiday plans on TikTok faced a nightmare scenario she dubbed the “worst thing that can happen to you”. In a devastating turn of events, TikTok user Melissa Doherty, in her excitement, decided to share her travel plans on the popular social media platform, only to fall victim to an unknown crook.
Melissa, a young woman who was due to fly from Cairns to Singapore, rather unwisely shared a post that included her reference number, travel date and final destination. Unfortunately, it was enough information for the opportunistic thief, utilising her surname, to cancel the flight and request a refund to the tune of $520, an incident Melissa believes is the “worst thing that can happen to you”. Melissa discovered that her flight had been cancelled when she received an email from the airline, Qantas, which, to add insult to injury, noted that she wouldn’t be entirely reimbursed.
She again took to social media to share a video in which she told the thief to “get a life” and “find a more constructive hobby than ruining other people’s lives”, reports Belgian news site 7sur7.
Melissa, who says she’s learned from the unfortunate incident, said: “I’m not angry or upset. I’m sick to my stomach.”
She added: “I should never have posted the details on social media. I feel like a lot of people would do the same thing. I was excited, I just posted it, I didn’t think about it.”
In the caption accompanying the video, Melissa wrote that there were “sad people” in the world and “clear jealousy going on”, but added that there had been a “lesson learnt”.
In a more uplifting update, however, Melissa explained to her followers that a refund was due to be issued to her, adding that she had learned not to “trust” people on the internet.
In other travel news, a woman recently took to TikTok to share an awkward incident involving a plane window that occurred on a two-hour flight to North Carolina in the United States.
Tori Wils was enjoying the view through the window at the time, but in a surprising move, a woman behind her reached through the gap between the seats and closed the window, apparently not a fan of the light.
In the video, Tori could be seen pulling the blind back up, only for the woman to pull it back down. She said: “I mean all I wanted to do was see the sky. Just trying to enjoy the view.”
One person said: “I would’ve spent the whole flight opening the window out of pure spite.” Another said: “That’s your window, not hers.”
A third said: “My anger issues could NEVER. I’ll be escorted off that plane once we land.”
