A good pair of wellies is indispensable in the winter, from muddy walks with the dog to a spot of garden maintenance when the sun’s out. Hunter is one name that’s synonymous with countryside style, and shoppers can pick up some wellies for less this Christmas over at Amazon.

The online retailer has cut the price of the Hunter women’s original tall wellies. Usually costing £120, a black pair of these classic Wellington boots is now down to £89.99 for a UK size 5.

According to the brand, this model is handcrafted with 28 different pieces and was first introduced in 1956. Its knee-high fit features the iconic Hunter buckle and strap at the top, which can be used to cinch the wellie around the calf.

Made from vulcanised rubber, these waterproof boots provide plenty of protection from mud, rain, and even wading through shallow water. Hunter advises shoppers buy their US foot size, which is simply two more than their UK size according to the brand’s size guide. 

Along with the black Hunter wellies, various other colours are available at Amazon, including red and green. However, discounted pricing and availability varies by size and colour – the black wellies in a UK size 3 are £89.99, for example, while the green wellies in a UK 4 are £100. 

For a cheaper choice, Debenhams is selling these Elle Sport equestrian-style waterproof wellies with 54% off, now costing £29.99 down from £64.99. Their tall, sleek silhouette is finished with a snaffle bit detail, while a grippy sole provides plenty of traction. 

Or, for a handy pair of muck boots to use around the garden or even for running errands on rainier days, Next has these Barbour Wilton short wellies for £60. These stylish Chelsea-style boots stop at the ankle and have an elasticated gusset for easy on and off, and colours include black, navy, green, and blue with a plaid gusset.

As for the Hunter wellies, they have proven a hit with shoppers, who have rated them 4.3 out of five across more than 1,500 reviews. One shopper said: “These fit perfectly, and are great value for money.”

A second added: “Bought for my wife after buying several different pairs of boots, all of which have failed miserably, splitting, ripping, tearing, or letting in water – the ultimate problem. But Hunters are great, my wife loves hers and says they are brilliant.”

Another gave advice to shoppers in their five-star review: “Love my Hunter wellies, bought this pair to replace a previously worn out pair that had lasted for 10+ years. They need a bit of softening up in the ankles, which happens over time, but wear thick socks in the meantime and you’ll be fine for many miles of comfortable walking in all weather!”
