‘Highly recommended’ Netflix thriller is a must-see | Films | Entertainment

An exhilarating thriller featuring two of Hollywood’s biggest stars is now ready to stream on Netflix. Released today (Friday, 16th January), the gripping crime film has already earned a commendable 88 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Ideal for a Friday night in, the suspenseful plot paves the way for shocking twists and thrilling action sequences that will leave viewers on the edge of their seats.

Starring Ben Affleck and Matt Damon and directed by Joe Carnahan, The Rip sees the renowned actors as two Tactical Narcotics Team (TNT) police officers in Miami, leading an investigation into a stash house following an enigmatic tip-off.

Upon discovering millions of dollars hidden in the attic, they’re left questioning who they can trust as external forces start to close in.

The Globe and Mail has praised the film as “thoroughly enjoyable”, drawing comparisons with other successful cop thrillers such as Training Day, Cop Land, and Triple 9.

The Hollywood Reporter concurred, stating: “While [Carnahan’s] new film doesn’t reshape the mould, an ace cast led by Matt Damon and Ben Affleck and twisty plotting that bristles with paranoia and mistrust make it an entertaining watch.”

Flickering Myth were particularly effusive in their praise, writing: “More than a gift to see Ben Affleck and Matt Damon reunited on screen, this is a genius stroke of casting for writer/director Joe Carnahan’s paranoia-laced crime thriller The Rip that, well, rips.”

IGN described The Rip’s eleventh-hour revelations as “exhilarating”, with the critic confessing they were “on the edge of my seat” during its finale.

Letterboxd members who’ve already watched the picture were equally complimentary, with one viewer remarking: “Shockingly solid Netflix thriller. Damon and Affleck are always magic together.

“A gripping film with a great cast that tells an intense story,” a second admirer noted. “The Affleck/Damon duo delivers, and the clever twist isn’t exactly predictable. A good film.”

The Rip is available to stream on Netflix.
