The 2026 Oscar nominations were announced by actors Danielle Brooks and Lewis Pullman on Thursday, January 22 from the academy’s Samuel Goldwyn Theatre. As they read out the list of people who will be vying for awards on Sunday March 15 they threw up a few surprises alongside the expected nominations. Paul Mescal missed out on a nod for his role as Shakespeare in Hamnet while Elle Fanning received a surprise nom for her role in Sentimental Value. Meanwhile, Wicked: For Good didn’t garner a single nomination, in comparison to the first movie which had 10 nominations. Meanwhile, Sinners became a bona fide record breaker with an astonishing 16 nominations. Also announced were nominees for the first new category in 25 years, Best Casting.
