Freeview shutdown removes three channels on your TV, here’s what you’ve lost
There’s already been one trio of channel moves this month, and now another update to Freeview has just been announced, bringing with it a total of five changes. It’s been confirmed that three services have just shut down, one has moved position on the planner and one has just launched. Express.co.uk has all the latest Freeview news.
Let’s start with those closures which include Notts TV – channel, 3ABN – channel 268 and UK Radio Portal – channel 277. If you enjoyed content via those platforms, you’ll no longer get access with the change kicking in on September 17.
Next, there’s the move with It Is Written, which is switching from channel 286 to a new position on channel 268.
Finally, there’s that new service arriving. It’s called MBC Group and it’s available now on channel 289. This hybrid streaming portal provides access to a bundle of channels operated by the Saudi-based MBC.
Confirming the update, Freeview said, “On 17th September 2025 some broadcasters are making changes to their channels.
“You will need to retune to update your TV and keep your channels and TV Guide up to date.
“Channels are constantly evolving on Freeview with individual channels making the decision to move, add or remove channels. Freeview continues to ensure that audiences can enjoy a rich and varied selection of channels. ”
If you want ro make sure your TV is up to date then a quick retune will do the trick.
Freeview has issued advice on how to retune devices, and here are the steps every user needs to follow.
• Press menu on your box or TV remote control
• Select ‘set-up’, ‘installation’, ‘update’ or a similar option. If you’re asked for a password, the default code is ‘1234’ or ‘0000’.
Select ‘first-time installation’ (sometimes called ‘factory reset’, ‘full retune’ or ‘default settings’).
• Press ‘OK’ if your equipment asks if it’s OK to delete existing channels and then your retune should start automatically. If you’re prompted to, save the channels that are found.
