First look inside smart new Mercedes where the best seats are in the back
The new Mercedes S-Class won’t cause any rows about who is sitting in the back, as that’s the best place to be. This newly developed luxury saloon offers rear passengers a truly first-class experience with plush massage seats that recline, huge 13-inch TV screens for entertainment, a fridge to keep the champagne chilled, and even heated seatbelts for added comfort.
There’s a detachable remote to control everything at the touch of a button, and folding airline-style tables – plus temperature-controlled cupholders – create a comfortable space for working. Mercedes has even added an enhanced Teams Meetings app and internal cameras for calls to the office on the move.
To make sure the ride from A to B is as smooth as silk, the new S-Class has a clever trick up its sleeve.
Its water-cooled supercomputer automatically communicates with other cars in the area to receive real-time data on road conditions and the presence of nearby potholes or annoying speed bumps.
AIRMATIC air suspension is then adjusted to keep lumps and bumps to a minimum, so a skinny latte can be enjoyed without fear of ruining a crisp white shirt.
It’s also possible to automatically move the front passenger seat for added room, and a leg rest pops up to ease the pain on long journeys.
The new S-Class is clearly built to be driven in, but those behind the steering wheel also get plenty of tech treats with a huge Supercreen covering the entire dashboard. This is powered by the new Mercedes software, which even offers access to swathe of apps and services such as Disney+.
The car is covered in cameras and sensors to make sure cyclists and pedestrians stay safe, and scratches to the shiny bodywork are avoided. Evasive Steering Function Plus also comes baked in and will autonomously steer around objects or other vehicles to prevent collisions.
Mercedes also boasts that new DIGITAL LIGHT headlamps with innovative micro LED technology deliver around a 40 per cent larger high-resolution illumination field.
It will also park itself, gets full Google Maps integration and can be controlled via voice commands thanks to the help of clever technology from Gemini and ChatGPT.
A wide range of new and refined electrified powertrains – from V8 and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines to a plug-in hybrid – will be available to help deliver hallmark S-Class smoothness.
As well as big changes inside, the S-Class will certainly turn heads when it pulls up at traffic lights.
It gets an imposing front grille that’s around 20 percent bigger and an upright Mercedes star on the bonnet, which can glow up at night.
For those seeking ultimate individuality, the newly launched MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure programme enables customers to create a truly individual vehicle. With MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure, customers can choose from more than 150 paint colours and over 400 interior colours for the new S-Class.
All this luxury doesn’t come cheap, with prices starting from over £100,000.
Speaking about the launch, Ola Källenius, Chairman of the Board of Management, Mercedes-Benz Group AG said, “We’re celebrating 140 years of Mercedes-Benz and 140 years of innovation and excellence. No car embodies this legacy more than the S-Class. Brilliant engineering, effortless comfort, quiet confidence, timeless design. That’s what the Mercedes star stands for. And that’s what the S-Class delivers. The new S-Class remains our benchmark – and our promise. It blends its rich heritage with bold ambition for what’s next.”
And Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer, Mercedes-Benz Group AG, added, “Flagship of Mercedes-Benz, the S-Class has always set the benchmark in automotive excellence. It embodies everything our design stands for: timeless elegance, perfect proportions and a strong presence. It is the purest expression of our design philosophy — Sensual Purity.
“The new S-Class unites this tradition with forward-looking innovation in a truly unique way, redefining itself as an icon once again. “
