Streaming giant Netflix has announced several high-profile actors will be joining the cast of their upcoming film based on a best-selling book series.

The new movie, which will feature familiar faces from shows like Downton Abbey and Midsomer Murders, comes from Gilmore Girls icon Amy Sherman-Palladino.

Eloise is a live-adaptation of Kay Thompson’s book series of the same name, which is illustrated by Hilary Knight.

The best-selling children’s books, which first came out in the 1950s, have become a beloved staple of many households through the generations.

Netflix already previously announced that Hollywood A-lister and Marvel actor Ryan Reynolds had signed on to appear in the film, while young actress Mae Schenk has been cast as Eloise.

However, five new cast members have now been unveiled, including legendary British actress Sally Hawkins.

Hawkins is best known for her roles in films like Paddington, The Shape of Water and Made in Dagenham.

Also joining the cast is David Haig, who fans will recognise from films like Four Weddings and a Funeral and Downton Abbey, as well as shows like Killing Eve, Penny Dreadful and Midsomer Murders.

Next on the cast list is Victor Garber, who has starred in major films like Legally Blonde, Argo and Titanic, as well as popular TV show Alias.

Max Casella, who has also joined the lineup, has starred in movies including Inside Llewyn David, Blue Jasmine and Newsies, as well as huge shows like The Sopranos and Tulsa King.

Finally, child actor Isaac Bae rounds out the cast, having previously appeared in children’s shows like Toddle Tots and Wizards Beyond Waverly Place.

While a logline has not yet been revealed, Netflix’s Head of Feature Animation and Family Film Hannah Minghella has promised a wholly original adventure for Eloise.

She told Tudum: “Eloise has been beloved for generations, from when she was first published in the 1950s through to today, when no family trip to New York City is complete without a stop at The Plaza.

“It’s an honor to reintroduce this cherished character to the world with two people who share her signature mischief and charm — Amy Sherman-Palladino and Ryan Reynolds — in this bold, hilarious, and heartfelt new family film.”

Independent film and TV studio MRC acquired the rights to Eloise in 2019 and is collaborating with the Thompson estate, illustrator Knight, as well as Simon & Schuster, the book series’ publisher, on the film.

MRC Film co-presidents Jonathan Golfman and Brye Adler said at the time of the film’s announcement: “We’ve been working with the Thompson estate and Handmade Films for a long time to bring Eloise to fans everywhere, and we’re thrilled to be partnering with Maximum Effort, Amy, and Netflix to bring the cherished children’s property to audiences around the world.”

Eloise is currently in production and a release date has not yet been announced by Netflix.
