ChatGPT can save you hundreds on flights by following these steps | Travel News | Travel
ChatGPT, the increasingly intelligent AI, could potentially save you a significant amount of money on your next holiday. Securing a bargain on your getaway can be a challenging and often lengthy process.
Countless hours may be spent refreshing Sky Scanner, Google Flights or Kayak in the quest for the cheapest flights, experimenting with various airport connections and timings, all in an effort to shave off a few quid.
However, after opening your hundredth tab and losing sight of your original destination, many simply throw in the towel and head to the travel agents.
But this hassle could be avoided, as ChatGPT might serve as your personal travel assistant, with one finance expert claiming it saved him up to £700 on his flights.
Casper Opala, also known as Casper Capital online, boasts over eight million followers and regularly shares money-saving tips, particularly regarding travel savings. His latest tip, utilising the popular AI, he claims, secured him a flight for roughly £70 that initially cost more than £700, reports the Mirror.
His advice involves just seven simple steps that you can replicate, saving you time from trawling through numerous websites.
Whilst some of these techniques have existed for years, and particular travel platforms even documented them before ChatGPT was conceived, the AI assistant can gather all the information for you within seconds – sparing you countless hours in the process.
Casper’s seven prompts:
Find the cheapest way to fly from [City A] to [City B] next month, include hidden routes + alternate airports.’
‘Which budget airlines operate this route that aren’t listed on Google Flights or Skyscanner?’
Suggest layover cities that cut the price, even if it requires two separate bookings.’
Any mistake fares, flash sales, or unusually cheap flights departing [my airport] this month?’
‘Compare this flight across all platforms, where is it cheapest right now?’
‘Monitor this route for 4 days, alert me if the price dips below $95.’
‘Can booking two one-ways beat the round-trip price? Check both.’
Whilst the platform can serve as an excellent starting point for advice, and the costs are frequently accurate, the system remains in its infancy and may be susceptible to certain pricing mistakes. Writing for TravelBook, Laura Pomer cautions: “On the downside, however, is the AI’s susceptibility to errors.
“They are programmed to always provide reliable answers. Users would do well to thoroughly check results. ChatGPT does not access live flight booking data. Information on supposed current prices can be inaccurate.”
Nevertheless, Laura does recommend several approaches for continuing to utilise the AI platform, but emphasises that there is no guarantee. The author recommends individuals be as precise as possible with instructions, such as including timeframes, broadening the search to preferred regions rather than particular airports, or specifying more creative alternatives such as low-cost carriers, split-ticketing possibilities, etc.
