British Airways announces new flight to Spanish city loved by Brits | Travel News | Travel

British Airways has announced a brand-new flight route connecting Glasgow with one of Spain’s most beloved holiday destinations. The new seasonal service, operated by BA CityFlyer, the airline’s London City-based subsidiary, will take off for the first time on May 9, 2026, and run every Saturday throughout the summer.

Passengers in Scotland will soon be able to fly directly to Palma de Mallorca. The addition marks a major expansion of British Airways’ short-haul network from Scotland, giving holidaymakers more choice when planning their summer getaways.

Chris Tibbett, Aero Director at AGS Airports, which owns Glasgow Airport, said the announcement was a “fantastic boost” for Scottish travellers.

“We’re delighted to welcome BA CityFlyer’s new seasonal service from Glasgow to Palma de Mallorca,” he said. “This exciting addition not only strengthens Glasgow Airport’s short-haul network but also offers our passengers more choice when planning their holidays.

“Palma is a hugely popular destination, and this new route will provide a convenient and high-quality travel option for Scottish holidaymakers.”

He added that with no middle seats and a complimentary drink and snack for all passengers, the service would “be a popular way to start a holiday in style.”

The route is also expected to appeal to frequent BA customers looking to redeem Avios points, offering another way to travel to one of Spain’s most scenic and sought-after locations.

All tickets will include a cabin bag as standard, and passengers can choose between Euro Traveller (economy) and Club Europe (business class) cabins.

Travellers flying in Euro Traveller will enjoy complimentary refreshments, while those in Club Europe will benefit from access to British Airways’ recently refurbished lounge at Glasgow Airport, as well as priority boarding, a complimentary bar and meal service, and an increased baggage allowance.

The announcement comes as airlines expand their summer 2026 schedules to meet growing demand for European holidays, with Palma de Mallorca, known for its stunning beaches, historic old town and vibrant nightlife, continuing to top the list of favourite destinations for UK travellers.
