Argos is dishing out Sky-rivalling TV for £99
There’s been a big change in TV over the past year. It comes from Freely, a new service that lets TV fans stream content over the internet without the need for an aerial. That means there’s a huge advantage with this type of TV – you only need a plug and some Wi-Fi and you can watch UK broadcast TV anywhere in the home.
This Bush TV is on special offer and priced at £99 at Argos, it’s an affordable way to get access to Freely, in HD quality – along with other top streaming services like Netflix and Disney+.
This model is only 24-inches, so it’s a little smaller, but that’s ideal for a kitchen worktop, guest bedroom or perhaps a student dorm room. Thanks to the compact dimensions and low price, it’s a really practical TV solution – especially as it doesn’t need a roof aerial or a fiddly indoor aerial to work.
Freely pulls together BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5 to give access to those services over the internet, rivalling the service that you get from Sky Stream – which also works without an aerial, but costs from £15 a month. With Freely, once you’ve bought the TV there’s no subscriptions needed, unless you want to want to use any of the included streaming services, like Prime Video.
This Bush TV uses the new TiVo interface, which means it’s smart and connected, but not full of bloat, adverts and unwanted apps like other TVs.
At 24 inches this TV has a 720p resolution (which is what UK HD channels are broadcast at), so it’s not as crisp as more expensive Full HD models – but it also enjoys HDR – high dynamic range – the tech that makes colours more engaging and boosts contrast.
There are two 2.5W speakers in this TV so it’s likely to sound a little weak – but that’s to be expected from a TV that’s under £100.
Argos shoppers rave about this TV, saying “Bought the Bush television for our kitchen. Good quality, excellent picture”, while another said, “Freely is excellent, no TV aerial needed just a good internet connection.”
While Freely offers most of the UK’s channels, it’s not as comprehensive as Freeview which offers a few more. One buyer commented on this saying: “Lots of missing channels compared to previous Ariel Toshiba”. Another shopper said it was slow to connect “Not the best as you have to wait for it to connect to the internet which seems to take ages.”
If the Bush 24HT25CB is smaller than buyers want, then there’s good news: Argos sells a 32-inch version for £119 which is still a great price. If shoppers want to go larger still, then there’s a 50-inch Bush TV for £229 on Argos, which also runs on TiVo, offers the convenient Freely connection, but offers 4K HDR – including Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos for a better picture and sound.
Bush isn’t the only brand offering Freely, there’s a discounted 32-inch TCL TV with a QLED screen for £149 on Amazon, which also offers Alexa voice control.
