Apple’s own AirPods rival earbuds are now just £29
I don’t quite know how Argos is able to sell the Beats Solo Buds this cheap. All I know is this is a ridiculously good deal, just one day before Black Friday on November 28.
I have tested the Beats Solo Buds, which are already the firm’s cheapest earbuds, even at full price. I found them very capable, though it’s notable that they do not have any kind of active noise cancellation (ANC). The only drowning out of external sounds you’ll get is from the noise isolation of having the buds’ silicon tips in your ears.
If that doesn’t bother you, you’ll be treated to decent Beats bassy sound for less than £30. These buds may be small but they have decently powerful sound, and they pair easily to both iPhone and Android phones. Despite being made by Apple they are even compatible with Android’s Find My Device app in case you lose them.
You also get a button under the ‘b’ logo on each bus for controlling your music or volume, plus there are four tip sizes in the box to make sure you get the right fit.
The case is also tiny – the smallest I’ve ever used with wireless earbuds – but it’s different to most. It needs to be plugged in to charge the buds, as it does not itself hold a charge. So, when you put the buds back, they are not charging back up unless a USB-C cable is powered on and plugged in.
This is unusual for earbuds, but the pay off with the Solo Buds is they can last for up to 18 hours on a single charge, which is a very long time. The current generation AirPods 4, which cost £119, only last for five hours at most before needing a juice up.
It looks as though Argos is only discounting the Beats Solo Buds in the matte ivory colourway, which the retailer says it sells exclusively. If this colour really isn’t your style, you can opt for the black, purple, red or grey versions, but they will cost you £45 – still a discount, but not as low as the £29 version.
