Amazon is handing out discount Ring doorbells, and they are selling fast

Not everyone wants to set up the inside of their homes with scores of security cameras, but one security gadget many of us can concede is probably worth the spend is a video doorbell. These devices replace traditional doorbells by chiming when rung, but also letting you know who is there thanks to an app on your phone.

From here, you can see who is calling, or indeed who is snooping around when they shouldn’t be. Right now, the very popular Ring Battery Video Doorbell, which does all this and more, is on sale for £59.99, a huge £40 discount on the RRP.

If you like the sound of a video doorbell but don’t want to hook it up with wiring like a traditional doorbell, you’re in luck. This model is the wireless one with a built-in battery. It clicks securely onto the mount you install on the front of your home, only needing to be removed every few weeks to quickly charge it up via USB-C.

The camera on the doorbell can capture 1440 x 1440 HD video, including in its Colour Night Vision mode, which gives you a clearer image of proceedings than on older models. Head-To-Toe View offers a wide frame of view so you can see exactly who is calling, or which package has been left on your doorstep.

This is especially handy when you aren’t home. If someone rings the bell, you have the option to talk to two-way audio via your app, with the person at the door able to hear you and reply thanks to the device’s built-in speaker and microphone.

When you go on holiday, the Ring Doorbell is a very useful security tool, alerting you (if you want) to people’s comings and goings, letting you decide if something fishy is afoot.

Just bear in mind you’ll need to pay for a monthly or annual Ring subscription to be able to use all this gadget’s features. Prices start from £4.99 per month, and unlock tools such as 180 days of video event history, person, package and vehicle alerts, video preview alerts within phone notifications, a live view mode and a daily event summary.

Another thing to note is that this discounted doorbell does not come with a chime box. That means after installing, it’ll only ping your phone if someone calls, rather than chiming a bell sound throughout the house. The good news is, if you have an Amazon Echo smart speaker already, this can link via the Ring app to act as a chime.

If you prefer, you can buy the Ring Battery Video Doorbell in a bundle with a Ring Chime, a subtle grey mesh device you can affix to an inside wall that will do the chiming. This bundle is currently discounted too at £79.99, down from the usual £129.98.

Both this and the doorbell on its own are great deals, with Amazon noting on each listing page they are “selling fast”. It’s not clear how long the offers will last, but if you have been mulling a home security upgrade, now could be the time to invest.
