Amazon confirms UK Echo and Fire TV Stick upgrade but these devices miss out
After almost a year of waiting, Amazon has finally released its more intelligent Alexa+ in the UK. This boost adds a swathe of features to the chatty assistant along with make her feel more human. For example, users of Alexa+ can simply say, “Hey Alexa, it’s dark in here,” and she’ll understand the context and switch the lights on. The upgrade also makes Alexa better at understanding your preferences, and her tone even changes depending on the day.
So, if you ask for the football scores and your team has won, she answers in a more upbeat tone.
You can even ask Alexa+ to help find the best shopping deals and alert you when a product drops below a certain price.
Music will also sound better thanks to this update. There are now easy ways to control your whole-home speaker setup just by saying “play the music upstairs” or “play the music everywhere.
If you add, “don’t wake the baby”, Alexa+ will know you mean to play on all speakers except those in the nursery.
There are loads to try, and Alexa+ is available now. Simply head to Amazon’s website to sign up and give it a try.
It’s free for an initial period and for Prime users. For those not on Prime, it will cost £19.99 per month once the trial ends.
The only thing you will need is a compatible device, and sadly, not everyone will be able to give it go.
Amazon has confirmed that Alexa+ will work on all Echo devices except older generation models like Echo Dot 1st generation, Echo 1st generation, Echo Plus 1st generation, Echo Show 1st generation, Echo Show 2nd generation and Echo Spot 1st generation.
If you have one of these, you’ll only be able to access the original Alexa and will need to upgrade to a newer device to gain access.
The same goes for Fire TV Stick users.
Amazon says compatible Fire TV devices include Fire TV Stick 4K Select, Fire TV Cube (3rd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K Max (2nd Gen), Fire TV Stick 4K Plus (2nd Gen). If yours is not on that list you may miss out on Alexa+.
