UK homes get broadband for half price by making a very simple change

Millions of UK homes have just been hit by broadband price increases with many going up by as much as £4 per month. Luckily, there is a pretty simple way to reduce things. Making the switch to web browsing and streaming via mobile access could mean bills tumble to as little as £11 per month. Some might not be aware that Three Mobile offers broadband plans via 4G and 5G data signals, which ditch fibre cables and use over-the-air connectivity instead.

Three’s home broadband usually starts from £22 per month, but right now there’s an offer that drops that cost to just £11 for the first six months of the deal.

That price includes a router, unlimited data and speeds of around 150Mbps. There’s even a 30-day money back guaratee for those not happy once it arrives.

Another bonus of Three’s plans is that there is no need for an engineer to visit. Customers simply plug in the router, switch things on and then access the web.

The only thing to be aware of before signing on the dotted line is how good the signal is in the local area. If Three’s connection is poor, then speeds might not be as fast as opting for a fixed line service.

If a cable sounds more robust, Sky has a very tempting offer on its fastest broadband. The UK provider has just announced a deal that is dishing out rapid 900Mbps downloads for just £30 per month. That’s its lowest ever price for these rapid speeds, and the deal certainly looks tempting. As a quick guide, those with Sky’s Full Fibre Gigafast plan can download a full HD movie in under 30 seconds. That’s around 10 times faster than the current UK average.

Along with the main UK providers, smaller so-called altnets continue to pop up all over the UK, and some are real bargains.

For example, London’s Community Fibre is currently offering 1Gbps speeds for £23 per month, which is £7 less than Sky. Another smaller provider called Toob has 900Mbps for £25 so check out which services are in your street before signing on the dotted line.
