Tyson Fury will be back in the ring tonight as the boxing heavyweight takes on Arslanbek Makhmudov at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in north London. Fury, 37, hasn’t fought for over a year but hopes a win over his Russian opponent will kickstart a comeback. “I’ve been out in Saudi Arabia, but to come back to England and fight at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium – let’s hope I do better than Tottenham because they’ve been rubbish recently,” Fury joked ahead of tonight’s bout.

Fury is sure to put on a show, and millions will be tuning in to watch the fight, which is being broadcast via Netflix. Those with a Netflix subscription won’t need to pay any extra fees with the night’s entire action included as part of all plans.

Although that’s good news, it does come with a warning.

Homes might not be aware of a little-known UK rule, and falling foul of it could land boxing fans with a fine of up to £1,000.

Netflix is, of course, a standalone streaming service, and anyone using it to binge on box sets and watch movies can do so without needing a TV licence.

However, the minute anyone starts viewing live content via Netflix things change.

“If you are watching a TV programme that is being broadcast live on Netflix, you need to be covered by a TV Licence,” TV Licensing explained.

“You don’t need a TV Licence to watch on-demand programmes on Netflix.”

Anyone getting caught out could end up facing a significant financial penalty.

“You could be prosecuted if we find that you have been watching, recording or downloading programmes illegally. The maximum penalty is a £1,000 fine plus any legal costs and/or compensation you may be ordered to pay.”

So, if you are planning on enjoying tonight’s fight on Netflix it might be worth checking you are all up to date and paying your fees.

As a reminder, a standard TV Licence costs £180 and a black and white licence costs £60.50.
