Sky offers broadband at ‘lowest ever’ price but we’ve found something cheaper

Sky is back with a very tempting offer on its fastest broadband. The UK provider has just announced a deal that is dishing out rapid 900Mbps downloads for just £30 per month. That’s its lowest ever price for these rapid speeds, and the deal certainly looks tempting. As a quick guide, those with Sky’s Full Fibre Gigafast plan can download a full HD movie in under 30 seconds. That’s around 10 times faster than the current UK average.

Those 900Mbps speeds are ideal for busy homes with multiple people streaming content, working and gaming on next-gen consoles.

The only caveats are that customers must sign up for a two-year contract, and prices may change during the term of the deal.

As a quick comparison, BT is currently offering similar speeds free for three months, but then you’ll pay £43.99, which is £13.99 more than Sky. EE has a similar offer, which again is free for three months but then costs £42.99 for 900Mbps access.

Another bonus of Sky is the offer of cash to leave your current contract early and automatic switching to reduce the hassle.

“Stuck with your old provider? Switch to Sky Broadband and claim up to £200 credit towards your leaving fees,” Sky explained.

“One Touch Switch means it’s never been easier to switch to Sky. A new industry regulation means that you don’t need to speak to your old provider when you switch. Just give us a few details and we’ll handle the rest.”

So yes, Sky’s 900Mbps deal for £30 is good, but if you shop around, you might find something even better.

Along with the main UK providers, smaller so-called altnets continue to pop up all over the UK, and some are real bargains.

For example, London’s Community Fibre is currently offering 1Gbps speeds for £23 per month, which is £7 less than Sky. Another smaller provider called Toob has 900Mbps for £25 so check out which services are in your street before signing on the dotted line.

One final word of advice. Only sign up for this speedy broadband if you think you really need it. Most average homes should be fine with speeds of around 300Mbps which will be cheaper than opting for 900Mbps technology.
